Day 01

Scenic Mpumalanga : Distance for Day: 390 km

Departure from Johannesburg and Pretoria hotels, or from Johannesburg International Airport . We depart towards the escarpment. Drive through the scenic farming and mountain areas before arriving at Pligrims Rest. Enjoy various rest stops on route, including a visit to a Birds of Prey Centre, where you can see these beautiful birds in flight. Check into the historical Royal Hotel, a classic example of the bygone era. Enjoy exploring the old mining town on foot, before relaxing and enjoying a wonderful welcome dinner.  

Day 02

Panorama Route to Kruger National Park : Distance for Day: 250 km

Today is set out to explore the scenic Panorama Route including God's Window, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and the magnificent Blyde River Canyon . Enjoy lunch in the town of Graskop , with all its interesting arts and craft galleries. Continue the scenic drive towards the Lowveld area and Kruger National Park . Check into the Premier Protea Hotel Kruger Gate for 3 nights. This hotel is ideally situated on the banks of the Sabie River , and guests can view the animals form the viewing deck overlooking the river. Dinner is served in a traditional open air Boma, after which guests can relax around the campfire and enjoy the starlit skies above.  

Day 03

Wildlife of the Kruger National Park : Distance for Day: 150 km

Enjoy a full day’s game drive on an open vehicle, accompanied by an experienced nature guide.  Breakfast packs are provided by the lodge, to enjoy on route at one of the rest camps or picnic areas in the park. Arrive back at the lodge during the mid afternoon, to relax at the pool. Dinner is once again served in the Boma area.  

Day 04

Wildlife of the Kruger National Park : Distance for Day: 150 km

Enjoy a Half day game drive on an open vehicle in the park. Arrive back at the lodge at midday, to relax at the pool.  The last night’s dinner is once again served in the Boma area.

Guest can choose to rather do a late afternoon game drive followed by a traditional barbecue in the bush. This gives them time to relax in the morning, rather than waking up early.  

Day 05

On route to the coast with farm style living: Distance for Day: 350 km

Time to wake up a little later than the previous 2 days.  After breakfast, depart from the Kruger Park towards the coastline, although not all the way. Drive alongside the Swaziland border, through scenic mountainous areas before arriving in the town of Piet Retief , where we stay overnight at the Dusk to Dawn guest farm. For the adventurous, participate in the farming activities, or go horse riding.  

Day 06

Green hills of Natal and St Lucia : Distance for Day: 300 km

We continue travelling in easterly direction, arriving in the Kwazulu Natal Province . We arrive at St Lucia during the midday, where we check into the Elephant Lake Hotel for 2 nights. It is very centrally located. The St.  Lucia Estuary is a world heritage site. Experience a late afternoon ferry cruise on the lagoon, to see hippo, crocodile and a large variety of birdlife.   

Day 07

Wildlife of Hluhluwe Game Reserve- Rhino country: Distance for Day: 150 km

Today we spend the day in the Hluhluwe / Umfolozi game reserve, well known for its large population of rhinos and the other big game species. Enjoy a 6 hour game drive on open air vehicle. Return to St Lucia to relax at the pool in the afternoon.  

Day 08

Indian Ocean activities: Distance for Day: 250 km

One of the must do activities during the whale season. Participate in a 2 hour whale watching tour on the open seas. A very experienced operator takes you out to see these beautiful animals, from as close as 50 meters. (Money back guarantee if we do not see whales and dolphins)

On the return from this exciting activity, enjoy breakfast, before departing towards Durban area. We arrive around midday in Umhlanga, where you check into the Anchors Rest Guesthouse for the 3 nights.

The guest house is ideally situated, very close to the beachfront area, as well as shopping malls and restaurants. Umhlanga is an ideal spot to stay, small but popular, not to busy, close to Durban (30 minutes), and boasts with one of SA’s top Blue Flag beaches.  

Enjoy dinner at one of the town’s top restaurants.  

Day 09

Durban and surrounds: Distance for Day: 100 km

Enjoy a city tour of Durban , as well as the exciting Ushaka Marine World-a fun day with shows and water sport activities. Dinner can be enjoyed at the Durban waterfront area, enjoying the views of the big ships entering the harbour.  

Day 10

Relaxation time: Distance for the day – Nil

Free day at the beach, followed again by dinner at one of the town’s restaurants.  

Day 11

On route to the Garden Route : Distance for Day: 200 km

Transfer in the mid day to the airport in Durban for the afternoon flight to Port Elizabeth .  On arrival, guests will be picked up at the airport, and continue with a two hour drive to the heart of the Garden route. We arrive at Tsitsikama Village , where we check into the Tsitsikama Village Inn for 2 nights. Again, ideally situated, surrounded by the natural forests. Enjoy dinner at the restaurant.   

Day 12

The Tsitsikama Forest experience: Distance for Day: 100 km

A day for activities in the surrounding areas. We visit the Storms River Mouth for a pleasant hike to the hanging bridge across the river. Enjoy the coastal beauty of the area, before participating in a 3 hour tree top canopy tour. Explore the forest 30 metres above the ground. Gently slide on steel cables amongst these giant trees to view the beauty. (Again, it is one of the must do’s).

We also visit the Bloukrans Bridge to view the highest Bungi jump in the world (216m). For those interested, this would be at an optional extra cost.  

Day 13

Scenic Garden Route : Distance for Day: 250 km

We continue along the garden route, visiting more places of interest before arriving in Knysna.  

Some of the paces being visited on route include the Big tree forests, Natures Valley , Plettenberg Bay and the Knysna Heads. Check into the Knysna Quays hotel for two nights. The hotel is situated on the Knysna waterfront area, with various restaurants and tourist attraction on the doorstep. Enjoy dinner at one of the popular restaurants of the area.  

Day 14

Knysna and surrounds: Distance for Day: Nil

A day set out to explore South Africa ’s Town of the year. It has many interesting attractions which can be done on foot. Explore all the various arts and craft shops and museums. Enjoy a4 hour trip to the Featherbed Nature Reserve. This includes a ferry trip on the Estuary, guided drive to the top of the mountain, and hiking through the forests. This is followed by a beautiful seafood buffet before returning to the waterfront by ferry. Spend the afternoon relaxing by the pool, or exploring more of the town.   

Day 15

Something different and relaxing: Distance for Day: 50 km

After enjoying breakfast, embark on the Outeniqua Choo-Choo train trip towards George. It is a wonderful 3hour trip by steam train along coastline, forests and towns along the way. From George it is a short drive to Mossel Bay , where you will check into the African Oceans guesthouse for the next 2 nights. This guest house is situated right on the beachfront, so guests can relax at the beach. A wonderful dinner is served at the guesthouse tonight.  

Day 16

The Klein Karoo and its surprises- Distance for Day: 200 km

We do a casual but very scenic drive over the Outeniqua Mountains towards Oudshoorn. Here we spend the morning doing a 1 hour tour inside the world famous Cango Caves , as well as visiting a working Ostrich farm.  We return in the afternoon to Mossel Bay to relax at the beach.    

Day 17

Garden route, Whale watching and Cape Town : Distance for Day: 400 km

It’s on to Cape Town today. It is a very scenic drive, via many smaller towns. We travel along rolling hills and vast wheat fields, and then fruit and wine farming areas, before crossing over the last mountain pass to see the views of Cape Town below. (If it is during the whale season, the route will also include travelling along the coastline to view the Southern Right Whales that frequent this coastline.)

If the weather is good, we immediately go to Table Mountain . Take a trip up Table Mountain with the cable car. There are nice walks on top of the mountain, and a lovely restaurant to enjoy the view of the Cape Peninsula .

Then we check into the Portswood Hotel, situated in the Waterfront. It is ideally situated with excellent views of Table Mountain , but more important, within easy walking distance to all the attractions in the waterfront. Stay over at the Portswood Hotel for the next 4 nights. Dinners will also be at some of the popular restaurants of the city.  

Day 18

The Cape Peninsula : Distance for Day: 180 km

Today is set out to experience the Cape Peninsula . We follow the beautiful coastal drive alongside the Atlantic Seaboard, passing through Sea Point, Bantry Bay , Clifton , Camps Bay , Bakoven and Llandudno. View the 12 Apostles from the Caps Bay beachfront. After this scenic drive, we arrive in the fisherman’s village of Hout Bay.

Enjoy a 40 minute cruise to " Seal Island ", where thousands of Cape Fur Seals can be seen in their natural habitat, after which time is allowed to explore the fish market, and the wide variety African Craft shops surrounding the harbour area.

We continue with the scenic drive along Chapman’s Peak Drive towards the Cape Peninsula National park , where we visit the Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope . Time is allowed to explore these beautiful sights on foot, and have lunch.

Departing the Cape Peninsula National Park , we now drive along the False Bay side of the Peninsula towards Simonstown, where the next stop is at Boulders Beach , to see the protected African Jackass Penguin colony. The last stop of the day is the famous Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.  

Day 19

Wine, wine and more wine: Distance for Day: 150 km

The Cape is well known for its variety of excellent wines. Today is set out to do wine and cheese tasting on some farms of the wine routes of Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschoek. There is a wide variety to choose from, as well as restaurants on the farms. The scenery on route is also very beautiful. We also explore the towns of Franschoek and Stellenbosch before returning to Cape Town

Day 20

Robben Island and the V+A waterfront: Distance for Day: Nil

Enjoy the morning ferry trip and guided tour of Robben Island , a world heritage site, and famous for its role in the history of South Africa . Return after 3 hours to enjoy the rest of the day exploring the V+A Waterfront, with all its wonderful attractions. These attractions include (at own cost) , the Cape Town Aquarium, boat cruises of harbour, helicopter tours of the peninsula, craft markets, shopping malls and many more. Farewell dinner tonight at a top restaurant in the waterfront.  

Day 21

Sadly, its all over: Distance for Day: 30 km

Last morning breakfast to reflect on the past 20 day’s adventure through the country. Enjoy the last few hours at the Waterfront, before being transferred to the airport for flights to home destinations. Sadly, this is the end of tour, or additional days can be added.

The maximum distance we travel per day will be 400 kilometres, and this is only on two days. The rest of the days travelling time is much less. There is no travelling at night time either.

Accommodation is chosen to satisfy all your needs: good quality venues, safe and always excellently located, with quality in room facilities and on-suite bathrooms, restaurants and attractions close by.  

Regular convenience stops are made along the route, including interesting “off the road” resting areas.

Transfer from the airport to the Beach Hotel. Check in for one night only. Enjoy time relaxing at the beach, and enjoy a wonderful dinner at one of Port Elizabeth’s quality restaurants.  

Day 06

On route to the Garden Route: Distance for Day: 200 km

After a short city tour, we travel to the heart of the Garden route. We arrive at Tsitsikama Village, where we check into the Tsitsikama Village Inn for 1 night. Transportation is in a fully registered, well maintained air-conditioned Volkswagen Microbus.

Driving and guiding done by experienced and professional Registered Tourist Guide.

The maximum distance we travel per day will be 400 kilometres, and this is only on two days. The rest of the days travelling time is much less. There is no travelling at night time either.

Accommodation is chosen to satisfy all your needs: good quality venues, safe and always excellently located, with quality in room facilities and on-suite bathrooms, restaurants and attractions close by.  

Regular convenience stops are made along the route, including interesting “off the road” resting areas.

Plenty of information, maps and guidebooks regarding the route are always available in the vehicle.

The focus of the tour is on the journey and places on route, and not the destination only.  

Please note the above is a pro forma estimate of the tour costs. Tours cost will change depending on group size. Seasonal activities costs are included, but will be reversed if it does not take place.
